The Walkings

Live/multimedia collaboration, with dancers, voices

The Walkings is the title of several related works that came after working on Cathedral and iOrpheus from 2000–2014.

I conceived of texts in the form of 24 poems and short prose pieces that were set to the Time Curve Preludes by William Duckworth. As an installation, my voice was recorded to music, a solo piano, and images and video were projected in a gallery setting. In another context, I performed live (with pianist Luke Gullickson; soon to be recorded).

There were a number of other projects prior to The Walkings, as noted below.

iOrpheus

The first in a series of performances. Conceived of by William Duckworth and Nora Farrell, this was staged on February 28, 2007 — four hundred years to the day of the premiere of Claudio Monteverdi's L'Orfeo (libretto Alessandro Striggio) in Mantua, Italy. It is considered the first opera.

iOrpheus — the i is for internet — was created in homage and to be an on-going work, with 26 podcasts prior to the live production with texts and voice by AJS.

The Relache Chronicles

Podcasts to date: Pauline Oliveros, Phill Niblock, Joe Kasinskas, Fred Ho, Eve Beglarian, Guy Klusevsek, Romulous Franchechini, and on New Music America 1987.
